The Auberge sous les Trees is a heritage building dating from the 19th century that is part of the history of Gaspé.
Built by Mr. John Carter in 1880 on land bequeathed by his father, he lived in this house until his death, as did his children who lived there all their lives.
In 1978, a notary moved there with his family to live there and make it the seat of his office.
Construite par Monsieur John Carter en 1880 sur un terrain légué par son père, il vécut dans cette maison jusqu’à son décès, tout comme ses enfants qui y passèrent toute leur vie.

In 2008, the latter transformed the house into an inn and built an annex to provide more rooms.
In 2016, businesswoman Claudine Roy bought the Auberge and undertook major renovations to give it a facelift so as to enhance the building and restore it to its former glory.
